the real refs back on the field for tonight's game in baltimore. so huge news there. it's news that broke very late last night right around midnight. and n.f.l. 's commissioner roger goodell released a statement shortly afterwards that says this agreement supports long-term reforms that will make officiating player. the teams, players and fans deserve consistency and quality in officiating. we look forward to having the finest officials in sports back on the field and i want to give a special thanks to the n.f.l. fans for their passion. now it's time to put the focus back on the teams and players where it belongs. now this statement, this agreement comes after two full days of face-to-face talks thanks to that terrible call during monday night football. that got the two sides back to the negotiating table. and just hours before an agreement was reached, terry mccauley, a real n.f.l. referee said this on our newscast about one of the big sticking points in the negotiations: pengs. >> yes, the economy has changed. things have changed but very to remember one thing. the n.f.l. is not like ca

is at m&t stadium in baltimore with more on that. what's the story? >> reporter: hey, derek, yeah, that's right. the league wanted these real officials back as soon as possible. so they said the deal was done early this morning like you said, but they haven't officially signed anything. commissioner roger goodell lifted the lockout so they could have the officials back for tonight's ravens/browns game, big deal. things will try and get back to normal. many of the changes with the real refs back may not be completely obvious to viewers, but you may notice it's smoother and a quicker paced game, less stoppage to figure out what's going on. more importantly it's about the trust that the players and coaches have with these officials. now the two sides worked hard to end this lockout, one that went a little longer than expected. >> i think there was pressure on all of us to get an agreement from the get go. i don't think anybody wanted to go into using replacement officials. i don't think the officials wanted to come off the field. >> reporter: now gene serator is the head official tonight
